After seeing Sefki's tutorial on this software, I stumbled upon the CC Digital Human Contest 2020 contest and and thought it would be super interesting to test this software out and compete. As subject I chose Tezzeret, a planeswalker from the Magic The Gathering universe, as I really like his design and the mood in his illustrations. I love playing the card game and thought this would be a good excuse to portray him in 3D.
I used Character Creator to establish the base forms and proportions of the model. Zbrush was used for most of his outfit, with some parts retopped in 3dsMax. It was great to go back and forth into Character Creator to test out certain poses, having a better look at the end result in the middle of the process. Face details come from TexturingXYZ multichannel maps, with manual sculpting on top. I then applied some CC SkinGen details on top before finalizing the texture in Substance Painter, which I textured all the rest of the assets in. Pose in CC, hair was made with Xgen Core, and rendering with Arnold. Post-processing in Photoshop.
It's been a struggle to get to the deadline, but I'm glad I managed to pull it of. This character has been made in 1 month and 1 week, only in my spare time, so I wish I got some more polish on certain elements, but it what it is. Was a nice experience nonetheless!
